Today some of my international friends and I went to Penguin Island. After about an hour and a half of buses and trains, we arrived near Safety Bay (where the island was across from). You can take a boat out to the island for $12, or you can walk for FREE! We decided to walk across the water. The highest it got was waist deep, so it wasn't too bad at all. Definitely a fun adventure to be had. Once we got on the island (it's pretty small), we walked around to the other side. There, we found a nice place to eat lunch on a slab of flat rock. Around us were all these cool rock formations and a nice looking reef (both pictured above). After lunch we continued to walk the perimeter of the island without seeing a single penguin! One of the workers said they were probably all hiding out underneath the rocks and bush. On the entrance side of the island, there was a little grassy area where we sprawled out to take a dip in the water and lay out in the sun. Once we had enough sun, it was time to cross the sea again! This time, on the way back, it seemed a bit harder and slightly deeper than before. This might've been due the the wind, but we made it back all the same. What a nice workout on the legs that water walking was! Then it was onto the bus, then train to get home. It was a great day! I got some sun, met some new people, and had a blast exploring yet another island!
