Say what? You can say that again...
So, today is the 1st of October. I thought I would branch out this morning and bike ride somewhere new. Lake Joondalup is right next to my campus, so I thought I'd get a nice, pretty ride in all the way around the lake. WRONG. They like to make bike trails complicated here, ones that weave in and out of neighborhoods, parks, etc. I found a trail and hopped on thinking everything from here on out would be just dandy. The trail led to a park, so I made my way through the park to where I thought the trail would continue. In the process, a magpie came out of nowhere and tried attacking me several times. It was crazy. I eventually got back on the trail and started riding again. I made it part way around the lake and then trail just stopped and I had no idea what to do. So, I turned back and wen the other direction. At one point heading past the park where the magpie attacked me, a snake was slithering across the path and I almost ran it over. After that, I started seeing signs everywhere that warned the public of snake territory. I'm thinking, great. Don't let the snake get near you because it's most likely poisonous. I continued on my way thinking everything was fine. I eventually made it to the opposite side of the lake, where I could see part of my campus sticking up through the trees. I stirred up some parakeets (or the like) on the side of the trail at one point and hoped they wouldn't attack me either. They didn't, but some other magpie on this side of the lake tried attacking me. My friend jokingly made a comment of watching out for the magpies this time of year, but it was just a joke. Right? I finally made it out of snake territory and away from any visible magpie. Off to the side of trail a ways down was this forest area. AND right on the side of the path were two kangaroos (one of which had a baby in the pouch)! After a ways more I finally made it to the area where the trail had ended and hopped back on, since they can't seem to make one continuous path around a small lake. I got back to the park where I had started my ride and decided to walk my bike up to the upper path so that one magpie wouldn't try attacking me again. I was sooo wrong. It still tried. Maybe it's something to do with my helmet? Or my bike possibly? But it seemed like I was the only one it wanted to pester. Well, I made it home alive eventually. I've learned that branching out can be quite frightening at times, but it makes for such an excellent story.
